Invisalign & Braces
Straight teeth are an important part of a great smile, but they also have a number of health benefits including being able to chew your food thoroughly, improving your digestion, and preventing more serious health conditions. When straight, your gums will fit more securely around each tooth, allowing for easier cleanings and preventing large pockets of plaque buildup. Both traditional braces (metal and ceramic) and Invisalign are effective options for straightening your smile.

Why Get Braces?
Invisalign or Braces
Regardless of age, braces have many benefits. As your teeth align, your smile will improve, your self-esteem will increase and your teeth will become easier to clean – for both you and your dentist. The thought of braces still tends to be daunting for many patients, but the treatment has evolved from what many of us remember from our youth. The options for today’s braces range from the metal wiring that we’re all familiar with to virtually invisible treatment solutions.
Types of Braces
The different types of braces available for your teeth.
Metal braces are made of stainless steel brackets that your dentist will position on either the back or front of your teeth, along with metal wires that – as they’re tightened – will move your teeth into a straighter position and alignment. Depending on your condition, your dentist may also use rubber bands to assist in this process. Children often enjoy having their dentist add colourful loops to front-facing brackets to make their smile more colourful, unique, and limit the amount of metal that shows in their smile.
Ceramic braces use the same wiring as metal braces, but the brackets are clear or the same colour as your teeth. They function the same way that metal braces do by applying pressure to your teeth so that they straighten and align over a period of time. Many adult patients tend to choose ceramic braces because they’re less noticeable.
Invisalign is the least noticeable form of orthodontics currently. They involve a clear set of plastic forms that fit over your teeth and are custom molded to fit your mouth. You will wear a new set of forms over a prescribed period that will continue to realign your teeth during this time. For example, your dentist might prescribe you to wear a new form every two weeks, with each one progressively reshaping your smile. Patients will remove the forms before brushing their teeth, making oral hygiene a much easier process than with traditional braces.
